  • Description

Ships of the Nato fleet were assembling at Gibraltar, Mar 19, for a week's naval meeting, Mar 21 to 26, which will be attended by Lord Carrington, Britain's First Lord of the Admiralty.

Among various naval units from countries including the United Kingdom, France and Portugal were Britain's destroyer "Apollo" depot-ship "Tyne", and Commando carrier "Bulwark".

on her way from Britain to the War East, the 22,000-ton HMS Bulwark carries 600 officers and men of 42 Commando, Royal Marines, big Whirlwind helicopters, and light and heavy transport vehicles which combine to make the unit self-supporting. Apart from providing a highly mobile amphibious force, the carrier is particularly well suited for swift relief action in case of major disasters such as earthquakes.
