    DR JUSTIN OBI, A FORMER BIOLOGY PROFESSOR, WAS SENTENCED TO DEATH IN MONROVIA ON MONDAY (MARCH 30) FOR THE MURDER OF THE AMERICAN EPISCOPALIAN BISHOP OF LIBERIA IN NOVEMBER LAST YEAR.

    THE BISHOP, DILLARD BROWN, AND HIS TREASURER WERE SHOT IN THE BISHOP'S OFFICE, AND THREE OTHER PEOPLE WERE WOUNDED. ONE OF THE WOUNDED, THE BISHOP'S SECRETARY, MISS PATRICIA NEWISS, WAS IN COURT TO HEAR THE SENTENCE BEING PASSED.

    THE PRESIDING JUDGE, ROBERT AZANGO, DISMISSED OBI'S APPEAL AGAINST THE VERDICT OF HIS TRIAL LAST MONTH, AND ORDERED THAT HE BE HANGED ON APRIL 3.

    DR OBI HAS ADMITTED DURING THE TRIAL THAT HE SHOT THE BISHOP BUT CLAIMED HE WAS EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED AT THE TIME.

    A LARGE CROWD WAS IN COURT TO HEAR THE RESULT OF THE APPEAL AND SAW JUSTIN OBI ACCEPT THE SENTENCE CALMLY.
