The Russian freighter "Michurinsk" unloaded a cargo of Czechoslovakian tractors in the Commercial Docks, Havana, Cuba, Dec 14. The same day, a Soviet trade delegation, led by Mr. Kuzmin, Minister of Foreign Trade, arrived in Havana - but all photographers were barred from the airfield.
From the quayside, the tractors were taken to warehouses. Their engines were boxed in; and instructions on the sides were printed in Russian. They are for Cuba's National Institute of Agrarian Reform.
Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev has promised help to Cuba to surmount the "economic blockade" by the United States of America. On Dec 7, the Russian tanker "Pekin" (said to be the world's second largest) arrived at Havana with a cargo of oil from a Black Sea Port.
And in addition to the Czech tractors, many of the Cuban militiamen have been issued with newly-imported Czech sub-machine-guns.
