    THE TELECAST WENT OFF WITHOUT A NITCH AND RECEPTION IN NEW YORK WAS PERFECT.

    THE TELECAST ALSO INCLUDED A MESSAGE FROM REISCHAUER, WHICH WAS READ BY U.S. MINISTER JOHN EMMERSON, AND A NUMBER OF SCENIC SHOTS OF TOKYO AND PREPARATIONS FOR THE 1964 SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES.

    THE EIGHT-MINUTE PROGRAMME WAS BEAMED TO THE U.S. BY THE RELAY ll COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE.
