  • Description

A routine visit by King Hussein to a weapons training camp took a competitive turn when the Jordanian leader challenged officers to shoot against him in target practice. It happened on Tuesday (May 5) at a desert firing range near Amman.

Crown Prince Hassan and the Chief of the Royal Court Zeid Rifai, who accompanied the King on the visit, also took part in the impromptu shooting contest.

One of the King's purposes for the visit was to test at first hand the weapons used by his troops and to sound out opinions as to their effectiveness from his officers.

The shooting contest happened after the king had tested automatic rifles and watched soldiers training with sub-machine guns. The King challenged officers to compete with him in testing their skill with pistols. The King was reported to have hit his target with every shot.
