    HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE MARCHED THROUGH A SMALL SOUTH VIETNAM TOWNSHIP IN QUANG NGAI PROVINCE LAST SATURDAY (1 JULY) IN PROTEST AGAINST ALLEGED AMERICAN BOMBING ERRORS WHICH RESULTED IN THE DEATHS OF SEVERAL LOCAL PEOPLE.

    THE ALLEGED BOMBING INCIDENT HAPPENED OVER A MONTH AGO. THE PEOPLE OF THE TOWNSHIP ASSEMBLED AT THE CENTRAL MARKET FOR A SHORT RALLY. CARRYING BANNERS IN CHINESE, THEY LISTENED TO SPEECHES ATTACKING THE BOMBING. THEY CLAIMED THAT THE RAID HAD RESULTED IN THE DEATHS OF SEVERAL OF THEIR PEOPLE AND INJURIES TO MORE THAN 20 OTHERS. THE PROVINCIAL CHIEF, CAPTAIN NGUYEN MINH DANG, WAS BLAMED. IT WAS CLAIMED THAT AMERICAN AIRSTRIKES WERE CALLED IN BY CAPTAIN DANG FOLLOWING INFORMATION THAT A VIETCONG FORCE OF COMPANY STRENGTH HAD INFILTRATED INTO THE AREA, WHICH IS ABOUT 350 MILES (560 KMS) NORTH - EAST OF SAIGON.
