Background: The Brazilian Foreign Minister, Mario Gibson Barbosa, has been in Zaire for talks with the government of President Mobutu Sese Seko.

At the end of his three day official visit, Senor Gibson Barbosa and his Zaire counterpart, Mr Nguza Karl I Bond, signed an official communique. They agreed on the need for the developing world to defend its natural resources and noted with concern the relative decrease in the volume of the third world's trade.

They also agreed on the need for sea and air links between Zaire and Brazil to help develop exchanges between the two countries.

A joint commission will be set up to examine these ideas and will also look at the possibilities of technical and scientific co-operation between the two countries.

Senor Gibson Barbosa said Brazil would take part in the next Kinshasa trade fair and he also invited President Mobutu Sese Seko to visit his country on a date to be arranged.
