    YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) PRESIDENT KENNEDY COMMANDED MR. GEORGE WALLACE, THE GOVERNOR OF ALABAMA, TO CEASE AND DESIST FROM OBSTRUCTING THE DESEGREGATION OF SCHOOLS, AND ORDERED INTO FEDERAL SERVICE THE NATIONAL GUARD UNITS WHICH GOVERNOR WALLACE HAD MOBILISED DURING THE NIGHT TO PREVENT NEGRO CHILDREN FROM ENTERING WHITE SCHOOLS, THE PREVENT ALSO AUTHORISED THE SECRETARY OF DEFENCE TO USE ARMY TROOPS IF NECESSARY TO ENFORCE COURT ORDERS THAT THE SCHOOLS MUST BE DESEGREGATED.

    THIS WAS THE SCENE ON MONDAY WHEN STATE TROOPS TURNED BACK NEGRO PUPILS WHO TRIED TO ENROL AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THREE ALABAMA TOWNS. STANDING OUTSIDE THE SCHOOLS IN BIRMINGHAM, MOBILE, AND TUSKEGEE, THE NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS BARRED THE WAY AS THE NEGRO CHILDREN ARRIVED FOR THE NEW TERM. MR. WALLACE'S ORDERS WERE READ ALOUD IN EACH CASE AND THE NEGROES WERE SENT HOME.

    THIS FILM WAS SHOT AT THE GRAYMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN BIRMINGHAM WHERE COLONEL AL LINGE, HEAD OF ALABAMA'S STATE POLICE, BARRED THE WAY. HE SAID:
