    TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 3: SCHUMANN: "The Soviet Union has renewed its dialogue with Peking and we welcome this. The United States in turn can but foster a little more each year and each day the desire to renew dialogue. If General Assembly encouraged them either to persist or to commit themselves more resolutely to this path, it might well be the mechanism that would release peace in Asia. Then, the 25th anniversary of the organisation could almost do without our speeches. It would be celebrated by the gratitude of the peoples of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos -- peoples well loved by France -- for whom the President of the French Republic would at least no longer have to ask for justice.



    But it is not in Asia alone that the service of truth presupposes the recognition of realities. The conclusion of a non-aggression treaty between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Soviet Union is in itself on the lines of detente, entente and co-operation one of the basic steps that General De Gaulle had wanted, announced prepared. But, at this point we have no more reason to welcome it. It bring us at this point we have one more reason to welcome it. It brings us closer to the day when "the whole of Europe that M. Georges Pompidou evoked at the conference of the Hague will be represented in this Assembly. Let us not say that we are still far from this. Let us observe rather that we are less far from it".

General Assembly that such growth could only be attained by concerted world peace initiatives. He particularly welcomed the recent East West entente between the Soviet Union and West Germany.

    M. Schumann also saw encouraging signs of a big power rapprochement in the Far East;
