Officials and newsmen were on the scene at the Sheraton Hotel minutes after the assassination of Jordanian Prime Minister Wasfi Tell in Cairo on Sunday (28 November).

Visnews cameraman Hassan Danish shot this film as Mr. Tell's body was taken to the ambulance and officials began immediate investigations.

SYNOPSIS: Cairo's luxury Sheraton Hotel, where a hail of assassin's bullets cut down Jordanian Prime Minister Wasfi Tell on Sunday as he returned from a meeting of the Arab Defence Council. Political observers in Cairo said the assassination appeared to be a revenge for Mr. Tell's crushing defeat of the Palestine Commando movement in Jordan earlier this year.

Eyewitness reports said the Premier toppled backwards under a hail of bullets as he entered the building. An Egyptian police officer acting as a bodyguard was seriously wounded. Mrs. Tell, who had travelled to Cairo with her 51-year-old husband, fainted soon after she saw his bloodstained body in the entrance hall of the hotel. The slain Premier's body was taken to an Armed Forces hospital south of Cairo.

Police sources said that four men had been arrested and later reports indicated they had confessed to the crime. A national period of mourning has been declared in Jordan, and Arab leaders have expressed their sorrow to King Hussein. Egyptian President Anwar Sadat later said he was confident those responsible would be duly punished.
