Finnish motor cyclist Heikki Mikkola increased his lead in the World 250 CC Motocross Championship by winning 28 points in Sunday's (23 May) motocross grand prix, at Orehova Vas, Yugoslavia.

There were two heats and Mikkola, riding a Husqvarna, scored a first and a second place. Two riders from the Soviet Union on KTM cycles provided the main opposition. Genady Moiseev scored a first and third, and Vladimir Kavinov came second in one heat.

In the World Championship table, Mikkola is first with 134 points, Kavinov second with 86 points and Moiseev third on 72 points.

The results of both heats were:

On aggregate, Mikkola was first, Moiseev second and Kavinov third.
