    THE SALE WILL TAKE PLACE UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE TOKYO BIJUTSU CLUB UNDER AN AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN THE CLUB'S INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE PRESIDENT, MR. KEIZO MITANI, AND CHRISTIE'S CHAIRMAN, MR. PETER CHANCE.

    THE 400 IMPRESSIONIST PAINTINGS, WESTERN AND ORIENTAL PORCELAIN AND WORKS OF ART ARE VALUED AT APPROXIMATELY HALF-A-MILLION POUNDS STERLING -- AND IT IS HOPED THAT THE SALE WILL BE THE FIRST OF MANY.

    (LAST YEAR, CHRISTIE'S SALES TOTALLED GBP11,726,000 STERLING, AN INCREASE OF 39 PER CENT ON THE PREVIOUS YEAR).
