Background: American Lee Trevino took a two-stroke lead on Friday (July 10 after sinking a 30- foot putt on the final green to complete the third round of the British Open Golf Championship being held at St. Andrew's in Scotland.
Trevino, the former U.S. Open Champion, shot a level-par 72 for a total of 208 for the three rounds, bringing him two strokes ahead of Americans Jack Nicklaus and Doug Sanders and Britain's defending champion Tony Jacklin.
Strong winds made conditions difficult and scores were much higher than on the previous two days.
Britons Peter Oosterhuis and Neil Coles hold third place with a total of 211.
