    SIXTEEN JAPANESE FIRMS ARE CURRENTLY ENGAGED IN CONSTRUCTING A HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER PLANT IN THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS OF SOUTH VIETNAM, AT DA NHIM, NEAR THE MOUNTAIN RESORT OF DALAT.

    THE DAM IS TO BE 1,450 METERS LONG AND 38 METERS HIGH WHEN COMPLETED. NEARLY 4,300 VIETNAMESE WORKERS AND 350 JAPANESE TECHNICIANS ARE WORKING ON THE PROJECT WHICH INCLUDES THE BUILDING OF A 5,000-METER TUNNEL AND WATERWAYS 2,340 METERS LONG. THE POWER STATION IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE 8,000 KW NEXT YEAR AND DOUBLE THIS BY 1965 WHEN THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED.

    COST OF THE SCHEME IS 49 MILLION DOLLARS OF WHICH 37 MILLION DOLLARS ARE PROVIDED BY JAPAN, 7.5 MILLION DOLLARS AS A LOAN FROM THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT, AND 4.5 MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE SOUTH VIETNAM NATIONAL BUDGET.
