    Zambia's President, Mr Kenneth Kaunda, officially opened the Ndola Trade Fair on Saturday (3 July).

    The three African countries represented at the fair -- Zambia, Kenya and Tanzania -- exhibited various ranging from brushes and brooms to agricultural machinery. A pavilion from Mauritius proved with many of the ladies -- it specialised in showing jewellery and cosmetics.

    SYNOPSIS: Zambia's Ndola Trade Fair was officially opened on Saturday by President Kenneth Kaunda...Zambia's trade fair comes at a time when Tanzania and Kenya are both holding or planning trade fairs....both of these countries are exhibiting at the Ndola fair.

    A large crowd gathered to hear President Kaunda give the official opening address. While many were interested in the agricultural exhibits. the attention of the ladies present on opening day was fixed mainly on the Mauritian exhibits of manufactured cosmetics, made under a German licence, and jewellery.

    President Kaunda stressed the importance of African trade in his speech. He was accompanied by Government ministers, including Mr Simon Kapwepwe -- Zambia's Minister of Local Government.
