Talks have started in New Delhi to improve economic co-operation between India and Bahrain. Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak, arrived in New Delhi on Monday (6 January) to begin the discussions. He will be in India for six days.
At present the balance of trade favours India with bahrain exporting very little. Since the oil crisis Arab nations have maintained they will improve their air to developing and underdeveloped nations.
On the second day of his visit, Sheikh Mohammed visited Mr Swaran Singh, now Indian's Defence Minister but formerly the Foreign Minister, who is a personal friend. Later he went to the Prime Minister's residence for talks with Mrs Indira Ghandi.
Sheikh Mohammed's visit is the second within weeks by an important Arab. Last week U.A.E. President Sheikh Zaid bin Sultan made an extensive tour of India.
