SYNOPSIS: Phnom Penh, the capital of the Khmer republic, suffered its firs daylight rocket attack on Monday. Three children died in the raid, when hundred-and-twenty-two millimetre rockets hit the city centre near government offices. One landed near the office of the Minister of Finance; another near President Lon Nol's office. The third rocket fell wide of the mark, but caught the children in the open.

The rocket attack means that the city of Phnom Pehn is in even more precarious a position than before. In addition to twenty thousand anti-government Cambodian forces, there are five divisions of North Vietnamese troops in the country. The daylight attack means that communist forces ware able to get within close range of the city, eluding defence precautions... a capability communist forces had not had before.
