    BRITISH SOLDIERS WOULD STAY IN BORNEO AS LONG AS THEY WERE NEEDED, BECAUSE THEY WERE HERE AT THE INVITATION OF THE MALAYSIAN GOVERNMENT, THE VISITING BRITISH DEFENCE MINISTER FOR THE ARMY, MR. JAMES RAMSDEN SAID WHEN HE ARRIVED IN LUTONG, NORTHWEST OF SARAWAK ON JUNE 20.

    MR. JAMES RAMSDEN, WHO IS VISITING BRITISH FORCES IN MALAYSIA BORNEO, WAS MET ON ARRIVAL BY LIEUTENANT COLONEL C.G. KELWAY-BAMBER, COMMANDING THE ARGYLL AND SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDERS IN LUTONG.

    AFTER BEING INTRODUCED TO BRITISH ARMY PERSONNEL, MINISTER JAMES RAMSDEN SAID HELICOPTERS WERE AN IMPORTANT FEATURE OF THE BORNEO OPERATIONS. ON JUNE 19, FIVE NEW SCOUT HELICOPTERS ARRIVED IN KUCHING THE SARAWAK CAPITAL TO ASSIST SECURITY FORCES IN THEIR OPERATIONS AGAINST INDONESIAN INSURGENTS.

    DEFENCE MINISTER JAMES RAMSDEN AFTER TOURING THE BARRACKS AND CAMP AREA, WATCHED THE TROOPS PLAY A GAME OF FOOTBALL AND VOLLEY BALL. LATER, HE WAS INTRODUCED TO MORE ARMY PERSONNEL DURING A TEA BREAK IN THE OFFICERS' MESS.

    EARLIER WHEN HE WAS IN KUCHING, MR.JAMES RAMSDEN WAS GIVEN A RECEPTION BY THE SARAWAK CHIEF MINISTER, MR. STEPHEN KALONG NINGKAN WHO EXPRESSED GRATITUDE FOR THE HELP AND SUPPORT BRITAIN IS GIVING TO MALAYSIA.
