  • Description

A conference of the Health Ministers of the Gulf States was opened by the Omani Health Minister, Dr. Mubarek Al-Khedhuri, who said that all the states were fighting together to wipe-out disease and provide complete health care for the peoples of the region.

SYNOPSIS: The conference was attended by the Health Ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain. The health problems of the host country, the Sultanese of Oman, indicate the sort of problems that all the Gulf States have been trying to overcome. In 1970 there were only two hospitals and thirteen doctors for the country's one and a half million people. Now there are well over two hundred doctors and thirteen hospitals. But the costs are enormous and for the Arab Emirates there's the special problem of providing health services for the nomadic Bedouins.

Oman's Health Minister, Dr. Mubarek Al-Khedhuri opened the conference on behalf for Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
