Deep in the heart of the sun-shine State of Florida, U.S.A., in the town of Tampa, they have been holding a snow festival - a festival complete with ski-ing, skating, tobogganing and all the fun of a Swiss mountain resort.
The fact that it never snows in Florida - at least no-one remembers it snowing - deterred no-one. A local ice manufacturing concern did the work of nature - the factory stuff is exactly like the real thing - and the festival opened in 81 degrees of heat.
Mayor Nick Nuccio opened the festival with the air of a man who regularly opened snow festivals in Florida. Norwegian skier Lief Svendsen did his best to give an impression of a skier doing the real thing but literally fell down on the job. A bob sleigh team scattered the crowd.
A snow queen called Sally and a team of sled dogs helped build up the act, which according to the local who had never seen snow before was very much like the real thing - but the European winter resorts are not on record with complaints about opposition.
