  • Description

If the communist offensive on South Vietnam expected during the lunar new year holidays this month does take place, military authorities in South Vietnam feel it will be a concentrated attack on the Central Highlands area. In the centre of the Highlands lies Pleiku -- a prime target for any major attack from the north. The town is supplied entirely by road -- along Highway 19, the most dangerous route to travel in South Vietnam at the moment. If this route was cut, Pleiku would be besieged -- so military escorts on the supply conveys to the town have been heavily reinforced in preparation for the worst. Two convoys a day travel to Pleiku, carrying one-and-a-half-million gallons of petrol and ten thousand tons of supplies each month. This film, which covers a hundred miles of the route into Pleiku, shows just how seriously military authorities are taking the threat of an offensive.
