    Motor Racing ... And not such a happy debut for Thomas Lauda. The 22-year-old cousin of world champion Niki Lauda, had his first competitive drive in Britain at the Brands Hatch track in the south east of England on Sunday (5 March), but had to be content with 13th place in his qualifying race.

    Lauda was in the second of two Formula Ford 1600 qualifying races, and his white Elden Mk. 10, No.53, was in fact his team's back-up car. On Friday (3 March) he had crashed in practice, and although uninjured himself, his number one car was severely damaged.

    The start of the race, and he was near the back of the grid.

    Driving steadily he worked his way up to 12th place.

    The race was over 10 laps and at one stage Lauda had got to eighth position.

    It was all over, and Lauda, a student, who is now based in Britain, who had finished 13th. When he had time to recover, he was asked about the race.
