    The President of Burundi, Lieutenant Colonel Jean-Baptiste Bagaza, had talks with Sudanese President Jaafar Mohamed Nimeiri at Khartoum on Wednesday (2 November). The topic of their talks were not disclosed. President Bagaza and his official party spent one hour in Khartoum en route from Burundi to Saudi Arabia.

    SYNOPSIS: President Bagaza had left the day before from Bujumbura, the capital of his tiny, land-locked country in central-east Africa. President Nimeiri led the welcoming party.

    The Burundi president was on his way to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of King Khalid. Just before he left, the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa signed an agreement here in Khartoum granting Burundi a four-million dollar loan to improve sanitation in Bujumbura. Burundi was to pay half the 10 million dollar cost of the first stage of the sanitation plan.

    President Bagaza had left Bujumbura on November the 1st, one year to the day since he overthrew the former government of Lieutenant General Michel Micombero in a bloodless coup. As well as being president, he is chairman of the country's Supreme Revolutionary Council.
