  • Description

The court martial hearing a case against nine men accused of mutiny while members of the Ghanaian Army on Wednesday inspected Broadcasting House in Accra, headquarters of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

The nine men were all non-commissioned officers in the now disbanded Reconnaissance Squadron stations at Ho, in the Volta region. They are accused of taking part in a mutiny on April 17.

The court martial visited Broadcasting House to examine points made by one of the accused, former Corporal Dan Amudson. He told the tribunal he had decided not to participate in the mutiny after being informed by members of another army unit that it was not true the whole Ghanian army was supporting the uprising.

The former corporal denied taking part in the takeover of Broadcasting House by mutineers.

The unsuccessful coup was launched in the early hours of April 17. The Minister of Defense, General Kotoka, was killed during a clash with the dissident troops.

    The court martial is continuing.
