Background: On November 13th, Sir GLADWYN JEBB, British ambassador to Paris, has visited the newly discovered oil fields at HASSI MESSAOUD, Algieria. He arrived at 10.30 in the morning by a special plane, a S.O. BRETAGNE, provided by the french Air-Force, coming from Algiers, where he had spent the previous day.
Sir GLADWYN JEBB was accompanied by Sir R.F.G. SARELL, British consul in Algiers, an Air Force attache, and a member of the Embassy. He has been met on the airfield by Mr. LECA, manager of the S.N. REPAL ( french national petrol research co) and Mr GERM, manager of the C.F.P.A. (Compagnie Francaise des Petrole, algerian branch.).
The airfield has been newly built for the petrol research communications, and is situated in the center of the productive aerea, where the research is going on to determine the dimensions of the oil field.
The group has visited the derricks and the camps where the workers live, among the saharian sands. Then, after a lunch offered by the Petrol companies, the Ambassador left for French Central Africa, where he will visit several towns before coming back to Algiers, and then Paris.
