Background: The President of Mexico, Adolfo Lopez Mateos arrived in Ottawa Oct 15 for talks with Canadian officials. The President's visit followed a round of engagements in Washington and New York, including private talks with President Eisenhower.
President Mateos was greeted by Governor-General Vanier--in English and French. He replied in Spanish. Prime Minister Diefenbaker and members of the Ottawa diplomatic corps also welcomed the President.
During his stay in Canada, Mateos is the guest of the Governor-General.
