    A delegation from the People's Republic of China led by External Trade Minister Pai Hsiang Kuo held talks with French Prime Minister Jacques Chaban Delmas on Friday (8 October) and invited him to visit China.

    President Georges Pompidou received Mr pai and his group - the first Peking government mission to visit a Western capital in 22 years - at the Elysee palace last week.

    At their meeting, M. Chaban Delmas and Mr Pai stressed their common political independence, and similar views on certain world issues.

    SYNOPSIS: A delegation from the People's Republic of China, led by External Trade Minister Pai Hsiang, arrived at the Hotel Matignon in Paris on Friday to visit the French Prime Minister, M. Jacques Chaban Delmas. The delegation had just returned to Paris from a tour of France, which included Orleans, Marseilles, Lyons and Toulouse.

    At the meeting, which lasted 45 minutes M. Delmas and the Chinese delegation stressed their common political independence, and similar views on certain world issues. During the meeting Mr Pai invited M. Delmas to Peking. The French finance Minister, M. Valery Giscard d'Estaing, was invited the day before.

    Last week the delegation visited President Pompidou at the Elysee Palace. The delegation is the first peaking government mission to visit a western capital in 22 years. They leave Paris on Monday.
