Background: Swiss police used water cannons to break up a demonstration of several hundred youths in Zurich's city centre on Saturday (31/1) The demonstrators, calling themselves members of the "Discontented Movement", staged an unauthorised protest outside the National Museum against the seizure by police of the movement's anti-establishment news sheet called "Icebreaker". Clashes between police Switzerland's consumer society, go back to September last year, when youths objected violently to the closure of an autonomously run youth centre. The authorities said they found wanted criminals weapons and drugs in the centre. Saturday's demonstration claimed at least four injuries. Police reported over 60 arrests, but released all but six detainees after checking their identity papers. The six still in custody were accused of smashing windows and rioting.
