The parade was to introduce contestants representing various prefectures of the country in a beauty contest which was held on the following day in the gymnasium in the Outer Garden of the Meiji Shrine where recently some games of the 3rd Asian Games were held.
The beauty contest was to pick up Japan's two No. 1 beauties to represent the country in the Miss World Contest in London and the Miss Universe Contest in California.
The beauties riding on the open cars were lavish in their smiles to huge crowds lining up on the both sides of the street where the parade goes.
The parade was, however, marred by an accident in which three beauties were slightly injured, but not serious enough to make it impossible to attend the following day's contest.
