    At daybreak on January 6th operation Artois was set in motion 90 kilometres from Timimoun in the Takhouzi area.

    At Colomb-Bechar, at dawn, commandos emplane in Dakota aircraft of the G.S.R.A.78., while the 12 me Compagnie Saharienne conveyed Africans who had left Timimoum on the 5th January at 12 o'clock and arrived at Takhouzi after a fifteen-hour march through the sand.

    The operation proceeded with the arrest of the assassins of the Caid of Takhouzi, who was killed December 20th 1957; capture of more H.L.L. and suspects at Tammsolout. At 9 o'clock 75 commandos of the air 10/540 commanded by Captain Meyer, were released over Tamesglout, 11 kilometres from Takhluzi, at a rendezvous marked out by Dassault 315 of the G.O.M.85 Leaving their parachutes where they were, the commandos ringed the oasis and began a search. They assembled all able-bodied men of the village for an identity check. Then the troops recovered their parachutes and started out on a siz-hour march back to Takhouzi to rendezvous with the 12 me C.S.P.A.

    The main purpose of this air operation was to demonstrate to the inhabitants of the numerous oases around Timimoum that the forces of law and order were on the alert to maintain peace.
