  • Description

Cuban President Dorticos, speaking at a labour meeting in Havana's Workers' Palace, August 10, told thousands of cheering supporters that the coming OAS Foreign Ministers conference in Costa Rica had been convened 'to attack our country and our revolution.' And Cuba, he said would ignore any resolution against her approved by the conference.

He also accused Cuban Roman Catholics with using religion against the revolution although the Government had always respected all religious creeds.

These words were echoed by Premier Fidel Castro at a Labour rally later the same night. He accused Catholics criticising the revolution of being capable of 'crucifying Christ himself again because Christ preached what we are doing.' He denounced Catholic clergy for association with the Baptista regime and for not attacking it in the present government was criticised. He accused Spanish Ceneralissimo Franco of lobbying Spanish priests to attack the Castro Government.

These outbursts against the church were prompted by a pastoral letter read through the country warning of communist advances on the island. This followed a series of disturbances outside Havana Cathedral recently.

Film ends with shots of various churches of Roman Catholic faith in Havana.
