  • Description

Santa Claus is getting a hand from a group of Canadian school children this year. Broken toy depots have been set up in schools in Nanaimo, British Columbia by the Parent-Teacher Association. Into them flow hundreds of the discards from playpens for hundreds of miles around. Hard-working PTA officials sort and pack the damaged toys for transportation to the repair depot -- the Brannan Lake boys school -- a correctional institution for boys. The school is located on Vancouver Island, about five miles north of Nanaimo. Here, the job of making the toys look like new again begins. All the boys at the school take up tools and go to work on the discards. It is expected that more than five-thousand toys will be renovated this year. They will be turned over to the Salvation Army for distribution to needy children. The boys at the school help in this operation too -- and enjoy it just as such as their shop activity.
