  • Description

Following fighting in Ceylon between Government forces and left-wing insurgents, the International Red Cross has presented Ceylon with much-needed drugs and blood supplies. They were presented to the Ceylon Red Cross at a ceremony in Colombo last week. At the same time a big blood-donation drive was organised to help victims of the recent fighting.

SYNOPSIS: The International Red Cross has come to the aid of strife-torn Ceylon with a supply of medical needs, which was presented to the Ceylon Red Cross at a ceremony in Colombo last week.

The shortage of medical supplies follows fighting between Government forces and left-wing insurgents during the recent uprising.

At the same time, a big blood-donation campaign was under way in Ceylon last week - to persuade people to donate for victims of the recent fighting.

The campaign was held during "Wesak" - a ceremony in honour of the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha.

Meanwhile, terrorism continues on the island - this bus, set on fire and completely destroyed by rebels, was brought into Colombo and put on display as an example of insurgent activity.
