    The new Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. keiichi Tachibana, presented his credentials to the Ghanaian Head of State, General Ignatius Acheampong, on Friday (20 May).

    SYNOPSIS: The ceremony took place at Castle Osu in the Ghanaian capital of Accra. Mr. Tachibana, the new Ambassador replaces his predecessor, Mr. Yuzuru Murukami. Presenting his credentials, Mr. Tachibana said that Emperor Hirohito of Japan had told him that it was his earnest desire that the cordial relations that existed between Japan and the Republic of Ghana should continue to be strengthened.

    In reply, General Acheampong said Ghana and Japan had a very long history of association and that Ghana was happy to count Japan among its friends. Japan, he said, was an inspiration in matters or rapid economic and social advancement and had a very important role to play in bringing about a new international economic order which would be fair to both the developed and worlds.
