  • Description

PRINCE CHARLES, THE PRINCE OF WALES, WAS INTRODUCED TO GORDONSTOUN, HIS NEW SCHOOL AT LOSSIEMOUTH IN SCOTLAND, ON MAY 1ST. ACCOMPANIED BY HIS FATHER THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH, HIMSELF AN "OLD BOY" OF THE SCHOOL, THE NEW PUPIL WAS TAKEN ON A THIRTY MINUTE TOUR OF INSPECTION BY KILTED CAPTAIN IAN TENNANT, CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS. AMONG THE FIRST PEOPLE THEY MET WAS THE HEADMASTER, MR F.R. CHEW, AND THE SCHOOL WARDEN, MR H.L. BRERETON.

PRINCE PHILIP POINTED OUT TO HIS 13-YEAR OLD SON THE WINDOW OF THE ROOM HE USED WHEN HE WAS AT THE SCHOOL. THEY ALSO SAW THE SINGLE STOREY WOODEN HUT - CALLED "WINDMILL LODGE" - IN WHICH PRINCE CHARLES WILL SHARE A DORMITORY WITH A DOZEN OTHER BOYS. WAITING TO WELCOME HIM WERE THE TWO HEAD BOYS OF THE SCHOOL AND HIS HOUSE-MASTER, MR ROBERT WHITBY. LATER THE GROUP HAD LAUNCH WITH THE HEADMASTER.

WHILE HE IS A PUPIL AT GORDONSTOUN, THE PRINCE WILL BE ADDRESSED BY THE SCHOOL STAFF AS "PRINCE CHARLES". HIS FELLOW PUPILS WILL CALL HIM SIMPLY "CHARLES".

GORDONSTOUN, WHICH HAS 400 PUPILS ON THE ROLL, STRESSES THE IMPORTANCE OF INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION, OUT-OF-ORDER ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SEAMANSHIP, AND EXPECTS EVERY BOY TO UNDERTAKE A SPECIAL PROJECT OF HIS OWN CHOICE EVERY YEAR. THE PRINCE'S DAY WILL BEGIN AT 7 A.M. WITH A RUN AROUND THE GARDEN FOLLOWED BY A COLD SHOWER. HE WILL BE OBLIGED TO MAKE HIS OWN BED, CLEAN HIS OWN SHOES AND TAKE HIS TURN AT SERVING MEALS.
