    Japan re-asserted its Judo supremacy during last weekend (14-15 September) at the world's first Junior Judo Championships held in Brazil.

    Japanese competitors won the gold medals in the heavyweight, middleweight and lightweight contests which were held in the Maracanazinho Stadium in rio de Janeiro.

    The heavyweight medal was won by Tsuioshi Yoshioka who weights 319 pounds (145 kilos). In the final he was matched against West Germany's six foot eleven inch (212 cm) Kurt Eulberg in a real "battle of the giants."
    The middleweight contest was won by Japan's Kazumi Hichijo over South Korea's Chung Young Kee and the lightweight bout by Katsunori Akimoto. He quickly defeated Brazil's Roberto Zuasnabar to win the gold.

    The featherweight finals were between Alain Veret of France and Hector Mangieri of Argentine with the Frenchman taking the gold.
