Background: Iraq's Vice President Saddam Hussein flew into Baghdad International Airport on Thursday (28 March) after completing an official visit to India.
Mr. Hussein -- who is also vice chairman of the ruling revolutionary Command Council -- was greeted t the airport by Shibly Al-Aysami, Assistant Secretary General of the Ba'ath Party, Dr. Ezrat Mustafa, Health Minister and Acting Foreign Minister, and representatives from the Indian Embassy.
The following day (29 March), in the presidential Palace in Baghdad President Ahmad Hassan Al-Bakr held talks with the visiting Soviet Interior Minister, Mr. Nikolai Shchelokov.
The talks were also attended by Iraqi Interior Minister, General Sa'adon Chaidan and the Soviet Ambassador in Baghdad, Alexenderovitch Barkovesky.

Mr. Shchelokov's visit took place just two days after Soviet Defence two days after Soviet Defence Minister Andrei Grechko completed a four-day official visit to Iraq. Marshal Grechko was reported to have discussed the Middle Est situation and the renewed fighting between Iraqi government troops and Kurdish rebels in the north of the country with Iraqi leaders.
