    Nationalist Chinese Leader Chiang Kai-shek took the salute Oct 10 - National Day - of Formosa's biggest armed service parade on record.

    With Madame Chiang, the General watched jet fighters in review, women of the Army and military cadets file before him, then tanks and fields guns rumble past. For the first time large calibre guns and anti-aircraft artillery were shown to the public.

    Some 6000 Formosans and foreign guests saw the 12,000 troops on parade. In a National Day speech, the General said Formosa would be able to 'overthrow the Peking Regime in three or five years at the most; and warned Asian nations they might lose their independence and freedom if mainland China remained under communist control.
