  • Description

Australia's cricketing brothers, Ian and Greg Chappell, won the Datsun Double Wicket Competition final at the Wanderers Ground, Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday (20 September).

the Australian pair beat the host nation's A side of Barry Richards and Eddie Barlow, by four runs in the final.

South Africa batted first and scored 37 runs, with Ian Chappell taking both wickets. But it was Greg who really steered Australia to victory.

Ian was bowled by Barlow for one run and the Australians' task looked formidable until the elegant Greg took command and hit forty runs ... appropriately hitting the winner with a four.

For their efforts, the Chappell brothers walked off with the first prize cheque of R1000 (about 680 pounds sterling).

The multi-racial competition included teams from New Zealand, Rhodesia, England, Israel, Pakistan, West Indies and a black South African side.

The biggest hitting of the final day came in the match for the play-off for third place between South Africa B and the West Indies.

Springbok left-hander Lee Irvine blazed 70 runs in 23 minutes with two sixes and 11 fours. South Africa B beat the West Indies by 56.
