FISHERMEN IN KUKUP, ON THE SOUTHWEST COASTAL TIP OF MALAYA, WERE WARNED OF A SECOND LANDING BY INFILTRATORS IN THE AREA ON WEDNESDAY. THE FIRST WAS IN AUGUST THIS YEAR.

KUKUP IS A FISHING VILLAGE, WITH A POPULATION OF ABOUT 400. IT LIES NEAR A CLUSTER OF TINY ISLANDS COVERED WITH MANGROVE SWAMPS. OF THE EIGHT INFILTRATORS WHO LANDED ON ONE ISLAND, SEVEN HAVE SURRENDERED TO SECURITY FORCES WITHOUT RESISTANCE. THEY WERE MALAYS AND ONE CHINESE -- ALL MALAYSIANS WHO'D DEFECTED TO INDONESIA.

THEY HAD USED A 30-FOOT BOAT TO CROSS THE MALACCA STRAITS TO THE TINY ISLAND. SECURITY FORCES RECOVERED FROM THEM A LARGE QUANTITY OF WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION. THE EIGHTH INFILTRATOR IS BEING HUNTED THROUGH THE SWAMPS BY THE MALAYSIAN POLICE FIELD FORCE.

MEANWHILE, THREE ROYAL AIR FORCE CANBERRA JET BOMBERS HAVE JOINED IN THE HUNT. THE PLANES ARE FLYING LOW OVER THE SWAMPS IN A BID TO SPOT THE HIDING INFILTRATOR.
