Background: Algeria and Uganda drew 1-1 in a second leg qualifying match for the African Nations Cup Football Championship in Algiers on Thursday (14 June). Uganda won the first leg in Kampala 2-1 last month and thus qualified 3-2 on aggregate. They go through to the final rounds of the Cup which will be played in Cairo, Egypt, in September.
Playing on the artificial turf of the "July 5" Olympic Stadium in Algiers, the home team, continuously attacked during the first half. But they missed several comparatively easy scoring chances. At half time there was no score.
The Algerian goal eventually came after seven minutes of the second half through a penalty taken by Hadefi.
Ugandan winger Obua scored the match equaliser. He shot low and hard into the right-hand corner of the net from well outside the goal area. The Ugandan goal came in the 66th minute.
