Background: North Korean President Kim II Sung, who began an official visit to Algeria on Monday (May 26), said Korea "will not fail to accomplish the historic object of re-unification."
The President said in the capital, Algiers, that imperialists continued the threaten a new war against his country, and even used nuclear blackmail.

But, he said at an official banquet, Koreans would counter all aggressive enemy manoeuvres and achieve unity after having brought about the withdrawal of United States' forces occupying South Korea under the United Nations' banner.

Tens of thousands of people lined the streets of Algiers to welcome President Kim on his arrival from Rumania. The North Korean leader is returning a visit made by Algerian President Houari Boumedienne to Pyongyang 14 months ago.

Banners calling for re-unification were strung across the main streets. President Boumedienne escorted his guest to the Government Palace. The Algerian leader is Chairman of the non-aligned movement supporting the policy of re-unification.

The talks between the two Presidents also covered international problems which had arisen since their last meeting. President Kim said the visit would serve to strengthen the friendship and co-operation established between North Korea and Algeria and will contribute t the strengthening of the solidarity of peoples of the third world.

President Boumedienne, as leader of the non-aligned movement, called last September for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from South Korea. He said this would allow the Korean people to settle their own affairs and work for a peaceful unity.
