  • Description

Britain's only (World Council) Boxing champion, John Conteh, felt confident after training for his light heavyweight fight against the United States' willie Taylor in Pennsylvania, he told reporters on Friday (8 August).

Conteh, who had not fought for two months, was preparing for the fight in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Although it is not a challenge to his light heavyweight title, it is a big-money match. There is fifty thousand U.S. dollars (3,750 sterling) of it.

The fight was to be the first Conteh had fought in the United States since knocking out Terry Daniels in 1973. The six-foot, 13-stone (182 1bs) fighter is Britain's newest sporting hero, and it's believed Conteh wants to become better known on the other side of Atlantic.
