Background: Liverpool beat the West German team, Borussia Moenchengladbach, three goals to nil in the first leg of the European Football Union (EUFA) Cup Final at Liverpool on Thursday (10 May).
The match had been abandoned the previous evening because of torrential rain. Liverpool, in the red shirts and playing left to right, dominated the game, using their superiority in the air to keep up pressure on Borussia' goal. Kevin Keegan, Liverpool's outstanding forward this season, scored twice, but he also missed a penalty. Larry Lloyd scored the third goal. Josef Heyncke missed a penalty for Borussia.
On this form, Liverpool, this season's English League winners, look likely to hold their lead in the second leg in West Germany on 23 May. The British team, Tottenham Hotspur, won the cup last year.
