  • Description

In London on Friday (6th November) a group of young Canadians, mainly students, marched through the city centre of Canada House to hand in a petition expressing opposition to their government's handling of the state of emergency in Canada.

Calling themselves a "committee for solidarity with Quebec and Canada", the demonstrators were objecting particularly to Prime Minister Trudeau's decision to curb civil liberties by invoking the "war measures" act, and its successor, a "public order" act.

When they reached Canada House the students enacted a mime which was intended to display their feelings on the situation. Police kept a close watch on proceedings, but the demonstration proceeded without incident.
