  • Description

    Dear Mr. Mallard,
As promised I now forward two short flight sequences of the 1957 "Swallow" model trials at Predannack. You may care to put this material into your library.

The published background to the work is quite well bought out in the 8th January 1960 issue of "Flight". I enclosed the reprint.

This flying model underwent trials to prove the low speed characteristics of the configuration. No flights were made with wings swept and the speed of the model was restricted to 100 mph.

The name swallow was never intended to represent a particular aircraft but to be the term applied to a whole family of variable geometry designs. As you know the American are currently using Vg in their TFX strike aircraft.

    Yours sincerely,
    J.H. MOTUM,
    SALES PUBLICITY MANAGER.
