    Israeli forces were put on a high state of alert up the Colan Heights on Friday (5th April) to guard against any Syrian at a??? during the religious Passover festival, starting on Sunday (7th April).

    Israeli military chiefs ware reported to the anxious that Syria did not exploit the religious festival for military advantage.

    The Israeli Feast of Pessach - marking the biblical exodus of the Israelis from Egyptian bondage - has attracted more than 40,000 people to Israel.

    Israeli forces along the Colan Heights have been heavily reinforced after almost a month of artillery and tank exchanges that new threaten to develop into a major conflict.

    Syria's military strength is reported to the about the same is it was before the October War last year - about 2,000 tanks, a lange amount of artillery and large concentrations of forces along the front.

    The Israeli Cabinet - which met in an emergency session last Friday - believes the Syrians may soon make an attempt to recapture the salient of territory occupied by Israel last October.

    The increased tension has made life less than easy for the inhabitants of the Golan Heights villages and settlements. Most of them have suffered artillery attacks by Syrian forces.
