    THE PAINTING AND SCULPTURE OF 30 IVORY COAST ARTIST WENT ON SHOW ON MONDAY AT THE TOWN HALL IN ABIDJAN. AMATEURS AND PROFESSIONALS ALIKE, THE ARTIST, WHOSE STYLES REPRESENTED A WIDE RANGE OF TECHNIQUES, ARE MEMBERS OF THE PLASTIC ART SECTION OF THE GENERAL ASSOCIATION OF ARTS AND LETTERS OF THE IVORY COAST.

    THE ASSOCIATION WAS FOUNDED ELEVEN YEARS AGO IN 1956 AND HAS FOUR SECTIONS - LETTERS, PLASTIC ART, DRAMATIC ART, AND MUSIC. OF ALL THE SECTIONS PLASTIC ART IS THE MOST ACTIVE, HOLDING A PUBLIC EXHIBITION AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR.

    THE AIM OF THE ASSOCIATION IS TO DEVELOP CULTURAL INTEREST THROUGH THE IVORY COAST AND TO AWAKEN THE LATENT ARTISTIC TALENT OF BOTH THE YOUNG AND NOT SO YOUNG.

    IT IS HOPED THAT IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE IT WILL BE POSSIBLE, WITH THE HELP OF LOCAL ARTISTS BELONGING TO THE PLASTIC ART SECTION, TO STAGE EXHIBITIONS IN THE COUNTRY OUTSIDE ABIDJAN SO ATTRACTING THE ATTENTION OF A WIDER AUDIENCE.

    THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE EXHIBITION IN THE BANQUETING HALL OF THE TOWN HALL WAS ATTENDED BY THE MINISTER OF NATIONAL EDUCATION, M. LAMBERT AMON TANOH.
