  • Description

King Baudouin attended a review of Belgium's naval force in the port of Brussels July 20, eve of Belgium's annual National Day holiday. It was the first time in Belgium that the sovereign has presided at a naval review.

Commodore Robbins, chief of the naval force, outlined the growth of the force during the ten years since 1949, when Belgium's contribution to N.A.T.O. naval preparations was first defined.

Minesweeping is the chief task of the Belgian force, and taking part in the review were a number of coastal and deep-sea minesweepers. Altogether fifteen ship were reviewed by King Baudouin, who afterwards greeted Government Ministers and Commodore Robbins.
