  • Description

Teams from 38 countries lined up for the start of the 27th World Archery Championships in Grenoble, France, on Tuesday (24 July). During the remainder of the week, a total of 200 top international archers will be computing for world titles.

Though the United States team is without their Olympic champion John Williams -- he failed the selection trials -- they still field one of the strongest challenges. The women's Munich gold medallist Doreen Wilber is there, and the Americans even included the two youngest competitors -- 13-year-old Jody Crowl from Pennsylvania and 16-year-old Darrell Pace from Cincinnati.

In the absence of John Williams, Munich runner-up Gunnar Jervill of Sweden is among the favourites for the men's title. He's current European champion.
